Mitchel Krause was an inspiring 17-year-old young man. On June 14, 2011 he was fishing with friends at Rock Cut State Park. Due to an undiagnosed cardiac abnormality, he suffered sudden cardiac arrest, resulting in his drowning. Mitchel would have been a senior at Hononegah High School this year. During the three years he attended high school he competed in track and was a member of our mighty Hononegah Indians football team.
Mitchel excelled in math scoring in the top 97% on his ACTs in mathematics for the country. Although he was undecided on a career path, he talked of joining the service and dreamed of attending West Point. Mitchel was always willing to help others. From the age of three, when his mother joined the fire service, he would help with fundraising, taking tickets, passing out cartons of milk, or whatever was asked of him. Mitchel never grew out of the need to help others.
Mitchel never grew out of the need to help others.
During the winter of 2010, Mitchel decided to embark on the adventure of entrepreneurship. Along with a few friends, he established a snow shoveling business. They would start in the wee hours of the morning, ensuring that neighbors who had to leave early for work had their drives cleared and would end with assisting the elderly community at Forest View with their drives. He was happy just to be outside helping others with no regard for being paid. Mitchel also worked diligently with his grandfather assisting him with anything he needed for his apiary business. He accomplished all of this while working part time at Beef-A-Roo, attending sports practices, games and meets, and maintaining a social life.
A scholarship in Mitchel’s memory has been established to continue the spirit of helping others that defined him. Candidates will be asked to write an essay explaining how they have bettered our community by helping others, and volunteering. Examples and references will be required from each applicant. The essays will be judged by members from the community.
Mitchel was an incredible person and his wonderful giving spirit will live on through this scholarship program. Thank you for your time and support!
